CARRAUNTOOHIL - IRELAND'S HIGHEST MOUNTAIN

WALKING ROUTE

Climb Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil. It’s wild, rugged and an adventurous day out. With stunning views and exhilarating walking, this hike to the top of Ireland is one of Ireland’s classic mountain days out! Carrauntoohil has several excellent and exciting routes to and from the summit, all of which are considered difficult routes. Steep, exposed and rugged terrain, tough underfoot condtions with some easy graded scrambling is generally involved in any route to the summit. From the Hags Glen routes such as the Devil's Ladder, Zig Zags, Heavenly Gates and O'Sheas Gully are all classic and involved days out, all of which are options. An alternative route for more experienced hikers is the Coomloughra Horseshoe taking in Ireland's only 3 x 1000m+ high peaks which requires a head for heights and easy but exposed scrambling.
